COACHING VACANCIES FOR THE 2008-09 SCHOOL YEAR

STA is in the process of soliciting and accepting applications for the following coaching positions for the 2008-2009 school year:

Interested applicants with sport-specific skills and coaching experience are asked to contact the Atheltic Office, Mike Egner or Jack Garvin beginning August 1.

FALL SPORTS TRYOUTS BEGIN MONDAY, AUGUST 11

Fall sports tryouts for Cross Country, Golf, Softball, Tennis, and Volleyball begin on Monday, Augiut 11.  All athletes planning to tryout must have an annual MSHSAA Athletic Physical form completed and on file or in hand on August 11 (physicals completed and dated SINCE Feb. 1, 2008 are acceptable for the 2008-2009 school year).  Blank physical forms are available at the STA School Offices, or the following weblink form from MSHSAA may be used-

VARSITY SOCCER POST-SEASON HONORS

After a successful Third-place finish in the Missouri Class 2 State Tournament in early June, the STA Varsity Soccer Team featured several players who were recognized with season-won honors.

The Kansas City Star's All-Metro honors went to six STA varsity players:

SOCCER STARS CAPTURE THIRD PLACE AT STATE

The STA Soccer STARS left St. Louis Saturday night feeling somewhat redeemed after capturing the Third Place game from Hazelwood Central H.S., 3-0, in a rain-shortened game.  The disappointment from the previous day's 3-1 loss to eventual State Champion Incarnate Word H.S. was diminished by Saturday's win.  Congratulations to players, coaches, and managers for a very successful and memorable season!!  And thanks to parents and soccer team supporters...our soccer parents have gone above and beyond in support of the teams all year!

VARSITY TRACK STARS COMPETE WELL AT STATE

On Friday and Saturday, STARS track team qualifiers competed well at the STATE Meet in Jefferson City.  Elizabeth Keaveny raced in the 1600 M. run and the 800 M. run.  Although Elizabeth did not finish in the top eight in either race, she competed well.  On Saturday, the 4 x 800 Relay team of Caroline Thompson, Paulina Wentworth, Emily Thompson, and Elizabeth Keaveny finished 10th in a time of 9:54.  Congratulations to athletes and coaches for an outstanding season!!

VARSITY SOCCER STARS HEADED TO STATE!!

Saturday's 5-0 victory over Truman H.S. at Excelsior Springs propels the STARS to the STATE FINAL FOUR Tournament in Fenton next Friday and Saturday.  In the victory over Truman, the STARS scored early in the first half and cruised to a 5-0 win against a talented Truman team.  STARS goals were scored by Caroline Gray (2), Kerry Cummings, Molly Campbell, and Caitlin BogerMary Warwick and the STARS defense recorded yet another shutout.  For Semi-Finals and Finals infomation go to MSHSAA web site at-

VARSITY TRACKSTERS ADVANCE TO STATE!!

At the Sectional Track and Field Meet Saturday at Lee's Summit North High School, four STA Varsity tracksters advanced to the STATE MEET to be held this coming Saturday, May 24 at Lincoln University in Jefferson City.  The 4x800 Relay team of Elizabeth Keaveny, Emily Thompson, Caroline Thompson, and Paulina Wentworth finished fourth with a time of 9:41:04. Later, Elizabeth Keaveny finished second in the 1600 M race with a time of 5:18:55.  Elizabeth also won the open 800 M. in 2:19:73.  GOOD LUCK AT STATE!!

VARSITY SOCCER STARS DEFEAT BLUE SPRINGS FOR DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIP

Thursday night the Varsity soccer team defeated Blue Springs H.S. 6-1 at Blue Springs South, winning the Class 2, District 15 Championship.  The Stars broke out of a 1-1 tie early in the second half and raced away to the victory.  Maegan Kelly (2), Rachel Mize, Ellen Jantsch, Caroline Gray, and Kaitlin Boger scored STA's goals as Mary Warwick and STA's stellar defense limited the Wildcats to one lone goal.  The STARS will face Liberty H.S. next Tuesday in the Class 2 Sectional game, which will also be held at Blue Springs South H.S. at 7 PM.  GO STARS!!

MOLLY CAMPBELL SELECTED GATORADE GIRL'S SOCCER PLAYER OF THE YEAR IN MISSOURI

STA Senior midfielder Molly Campbell has been selected the 2008 Missouri Girl's Soccer Player of the Year by Gatorade.  Held in cooperation with RISE Magazine, the Gatorade Player of the Year award is one of the most prestigious awards in high school sports. Molly will receive a commemorative plaque.  STA will receive a similar plaque and huge banner to place on the wall with our other Gatorade winners from last year, Michelle Jantsch in volleyball and Lauren Fowlkes in soccer.  Congratulations to Molly, her family, and the STA soccer coaching staff and players!!
